Business Days Between Calculator
This calculator counts the working weekdays (Monday through Friday) between two dates, inclusive of both ends. Because public holidays differ by country, state, and employer, they are not assumed: enter the number of weekday holidays inside your range and they will be subtracted. The result is the net number of business days, alongside the total calendar days and the weekend days for comparison.
How business days are counted
For each day from start to end (inclusive):
if weekday (Mon to Fri): count as a business day
else: count as a weekend day
Business days = weekday count - weekday holidays entered
The calculator iterates day by day, so it handles leap years and month boundaries exactly. The holidays field lets you exclude observed public holidays that land on a weekday.
Common business day rules
- ACH bank transfers typically settle in 1 to 3 business days.
- Many legal filing windows are expressed in business days from the date of service.
- The US federal government observes 11 public holidays; private employers vary.
- Shipping estimates such as 2-day or 5-day delivery usually mean business days.
Business days: frequently asked questions
Which days count as business days?
Business days are Monday through Friday. Saturdays and Sundays are excluded. This calculator also lets you subtract any public holidays that fall on weekdays by entering how many of them lie within the date range.
Does the count include the start and end dates?
This calculator counts every weekday from the start date through to the end date, inclusive of both ends. To match a convention that excludes the start date, subtract one if the start date is a weekday.
How are public holidays handled?
Holiday dates vary by country, state, and employer, so they are not hardcoded. Enter the number of weekday public holidays that fall inside your date range and the calculator subtracts them from the weekday count.
Why do business day counts matter?
Many deadlines, such as bank settlement, legal filing windows, and shipping estimates, are expressed in business days. Counting only working weekdays avoids deadlines landing on a weekend when action is not possible.
