Days Until Event Calculator

Count down to a birthday, holiday, deadline, or any future date. Pick the event date and the calculator shows the days remaining, the equivalent in weeks, and the number of weekdays between now and then. If the date is in the past it shows how long ago it was. Counting starts from today's date as set on your device.

How the countdown works

days until = (event date at midnight - today at midnight) / one day
weeks = days until / 7
weekdays = count of Mon-Fri between today and the event

Positive values mean the event is in the future; negative values mean it has already passed. Today is taken from your device clock.

Worked example

If today is 19 June and the event is 19 July of the same year, that is 30 days until, about 4.29 weeks, and the weekday count depends on which weekdays fall in that window.

Days until an event: frequently asked questions

How are the days until an event counted?

The calculator subtracts today's date from the event date, both at midnight, and reports the whole number of days between them. A positive number means the event is in the future; a negative number means it has passed.

Does it count weekdays separately?

Yes. Alongside total days, it counts the weekdays (Monday to Friday) between today and the event, which is useful for work or school countdowns where weekends do not count.

Why might the count differ by a day from another tool?

Counts can differ depending on whether today, the event day, or both are included. This calculator counts full days between midnight today and midnight on the event date, so an event tomorrow shows as 1 day away.

Can I count days since a past event?

Yes. If the event date is in the past, the calculator shows how many days have elapsed since it, reported as a negative number of days until, and the absolute count of days since.
