How do I turn a fraction into a percent?
Divide the numerator by the denominator to get a decimal, then multiply by 100 to get the percent. For 3/8, divide 3 by 8 to get 0.375, then multiply by 100 to get 37.5 percent. The word percent means per hundred, so a percentage is just the decimal value scaled to a base of 100.
Why multiply by 100?
A percentage expresses a quantity as a number of parts per hundred. The decimal form already gives the share of one whole, so multiplying by 100 rescales that share onto a 0 to 100 axis. Moving the decimal point two places to the right does the same thing: 0.375 becomes 37.5.
What about improper fractions?
