Letter Grade Calculator
This letter grade calculator converts any percentage score into the corresponding letter grade and GPA equivalent using the standard US grading scale with plus and minus grades. Enter your percentage and the calculator immediately shows your letter grade (A+, A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D+, D, D-, or F) and the grade point value on the 4.0 scale used by most US colleges and universities. The full grade scale reference table is shown below the calculator for quick reference. The standard scale used here follows the most common US convention: A is 90 to 100, B is 80 to 89, C is 70 to 79, D is 60 to 69, and F is below 60, with plus grades occupying the top 3 percentage points of each band and minus grades the bottom 3. Note that individual instructors and institutions sometimes use slightly different cutoffs, such as setting the A threshold at 93% rather than 90%, so always check your course syllabus for the exact scale that applies to your class.

Frequently asked questions
What percentage is an A grade?
On the standard US scale, an A is 90% and above. A+ is sometimes awarded for 97% and above at schools that use the full plus/minus scale, though A+ does not always change the 4.0 GPA value. An A- is typically 90 to 92%.
What is the difference between an A and an A+?
Most US institutions treat A and A+ identically on the 4.0 GPA scale, both earning 4.0 grade points. Some schools assign A+ a value of 4.3 on the GPA scale. Check your institution's academic catalog for the exact policy.
What letter grade is 75%?
75% corresponds to a C on most US grading scales (70 to 79%). With plus/minus grading, 75 to 76% is typically a C, while 77 to 79% is a C+. On a simple A/B/C/D/F scale without plus/minus, 75% is a C.
Does every school use the same letter grade cutoffs?
No. While the standard US scale (A=90+, B=80+, C=70+, D=60+, F below 60) is widely used, some institutions use different cutoffs. Some schools set the A threshold at 93%, others at 90%. Always refer to your course syllabus for the exact scale your instructor uses.
What GPA does a C give me?
A C earns 2.0 grade points on the 4.0 GPA scale. A C+ earns 2.3 and a C- earns 1.7. A grade of C in a required course may not count toward your major at some programs, even though it is a passing grade. Check your program's requirements.
