Number to Words Converter
This converter transforms whole numbers into their written English word equivalents. Enter any integer from zero to 999 billion, and the tool instantly converts it to spelled-out English words. This is useful for writing cheques, filling out formal documents, understanding number names, learning English numerals, or checking your spelling of large numbers. The converter also provides ordinal number equivalents (first, second, third, etc.), which describe position or order in a sequence. Understanding how numbers are spelled out is essential in formal writing, banking, and communication where numeric precision is critical. Numbers are typically written as words in legal documents, contracts, and formal correspondence to prevent ambiguity or fraudulent alteration.

How to spell numbers in English
Numbers are spelled out in English by breaking them into groups of three digits (ones, thousands, millions, billions). Each group is read as a complete number, then the appropriate scale word is added.
0-19: zero, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen
20-90: twenty, thirty, forty, fifty, sixty, seventy, eighty, ninety
Scales: hundred, thousand, million, billion
For example, 1,234 is read as 'one thousand, two hundred thirty-four'. When there are zeros in the middle, those groups are often omitted: 1,000,023 is 'one million, twenty-three'.
