Tree Removal Cost Calculator
Tree removal quotes hinge on height, site difficulty, and add-on work, so this calculator builds an estimate from those parts. It takes the tree height times a per-foot rate, scales it by a difficulty multiplier for access and hazards, then adds optional stump removal and debris hauling. Because there is no official national price and quotes vary widely by region and species, every rate here is a user-editable input rather than an assumed figure. Use it to sanity-check a contractor quote or to budget before you call an arborist.
Tree removal cost formula
Base cost = height * rate per foot * difficulty factor
Add-ons = stump fee + hauling fee
Total = base cost + add-ons
Effective per foot = total / height
Every input is a figure you supply from your own quotes, so the result is exact arithmetic. No market rate is assumed or hardcoded.
What changes the quote
- Height is the main driver; taller trees need more rigging and time.
- Proximity to buildings or power lines raises the difficulty factor.
- Stump grinding is usually a separate add-on, as is debris hauling.
- Dead or leaning trees can be more hazardous and cost more.
- Always get multiple quotes and confirm the arborist is insured.
Tree removal cost: frequently asked questions
How is tree removal cost estimated?
The base cost is the tree height multiplied by a per-foot rate, then scaled by a difficulty factor for access and hazards. The calculator adds optional stump removal and debris hauling fees. Because pricing varies by region, species, and site, every rate is a user-editable input rather than an assumed market price.
Why does height drive the cost?
Taller trees take more time, climbing or bucket-truck work, and rigging to bring down safely, so most arborists price roughly in proportion to height. The per-foot rate you enter captures your local labour and equipment costs.
What is the difficulty factor?
It is a multiplier for conditions that raise risk and time: proximity to buildings or power lines, poor access, dead or leaning trunks, and tight drop zones. A straightforward open-yard removal is around 1.0, while a hazardous, hard-to-reach tree might be 1.5 or more.
Should I include stump removal?
Stump grinding or removal is usually a separate line item. If you want the stump gone, enter the quoted stump fee; otherwise leave it at zero. The calculator simply adds it to the base.
Why are no default prices built in?
There is no official national price for tree work, and quotes differ enormously by market and site. We never hardcode a figure that could mislead. You supply the per-foot rate, difficulty, and add-on fees from your own quotes, and the arithmetic is exact.
