Cross into Georgia and the state rate drops to $5.15, so the federal $7.25 governs instead; Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee and South Carolina have no state minimum wage law at all. This rate is not the product of the usual annual cost-of-living tweak. Florida voters wrote a fixed schedule into the state constitution in 2020: $10.00 in 2021, then $1.00 more every September 30 until it reaches $15.00 on September 30, 2026. Two details trip people up. First, the raise lands on September 30, not January 1, so budgeting off a calendar-year assumption is a common mistake.
