How often should I wash my car?
The International Carwash Association (ICA) recommends washing your vehicle every two weeks as a general guideline. However, frequency should increase in winter when road salt and brine are applied, after driving on unpaved roads, in coastal areas with salt air, and after exposure to bird droppings or tree sap, which are acidic and damage paint and clear coat if left on the surface.
Is hand washing or automatic car wash better for my car?
The ICA notes that professional touchless and cloth car washes are designed to minimize paint contact and are safe for most vehicle finishes. Hand washing with a two-bucket method and a quality wash mitt is the gold standard for paint safety when done correctly. What is the difference between a car wash and detailing?
A basic car wash removes surface dirt and debris. Detailing is a deeper cleaning and cosmetic restoration process that may include clay bar treatment to remove bonded contaminants, machine polishing to remove swirl marks and oxidation, wax or paint sealant application, interior vacuuming and surface treatment, and wheel and tire dressing.
